The Forbidden Grove

From Skillet's Remnant Wiki

The Forbidden Grove is the primary world area for a Yaesha Corrupted Ravager roll. It is therefore the location for that roll's Yaesha Biome Portal. You'll also find the Yaesha Simulacrum drop in this area.

The following Injectables may serve as hub locations for The Forbidden Grove:

Walkthrough

You first enter The Forbidden Grove through the portal at the Shrine of the Balance and your objective is reaching The Lost Temple. This is a complex of buildings at the entrance to the Ravager's Lair and the site of the area's central World Stone.

Shrine of the Balance

The concept of The Balance is central to Yaeshan lore. It refers to the connection between all things. Flower and fang, hope and doom, life and death. All of these work against each other, but as long as neither wins, the forest is healthy. This is the Balance, and the living symbols of this eternal fight are the Red Doe and the Ravager. Theirs is a deadly struggle in which the Ravager can never kill the Red Doe and the Red Doe can never escape the hunt.

The Red Doe and the Ravager locked in the hunt that can never end

As you proceed from the portal, make your way down the narrow passage until you reach a treasure chest. Loot it, then turn around and speak with Bedel of the Vaunnt:

Bedel of the Vaunnt

The dying Vaunnt gives you your quest and gather whatever information you like. Once you've completed the quest, Bedel offers you various rewards. As you proceed through your initial dialog with Bedel, make sure to answer him with the sarcastic or flippant response each time you are prompted to earn an extra reward.

When you're finished, continue along the passage until you reach a small meadow surrounded by jungle. Turn right and walk towards the forest. As you do, look to your left as you pass the Shrine of the Balance to see a large statue of the Red Doe and the Ravager locked in combat:

The Red Doe and the Ravager

If you've already obtained the Ravager's Mark amulet, equip it and stand in front of the statue. You'll see the statue animate to portray the Ravager standing over the vanquished Red Doe. More importantly, a secret stairway appears in front of the statue:

The secret chamber

Head down the stairs into this secret chamber to find the Fruit of Death Category:Consumables (Remnant II)|Consumable]].

Now you're ready to continue into the jungle, but come back after you've defeated Corrupted Ravager because Bedel has more rewards to give you. For details on the possible rewards, see the Corrupted Ravager page.

After Saving the Red Doe

Return to Bedel of the Vaunnt after your Corrupted Ravager encounter to tell him the news. If you saved the Red Doe and killed the Corrupted Ravager, he rewards you with the Spear of Rebellion.

If you responded with all funny or sarcastic options during your first dialog as described above, continue doing so as you speak with Bedel now. When he asks if you played a role in saving the Red Doe, choose the "Maybe..." option. Because he appreciates a sense of humor, Bedel gives you the Frivolous Band.

The Lost Temple

Of interest here are the Power Building, the Lily Pond, and the Water Harp. Playing the appropriate song on the Water Harp grants access to the Ravager's Lair. To power the harp, you'll need to access the second floor of the Power Building. The Lily Pond is the location of a bit of nice loot.

Lily Pond

Just outside the building that houses The Lost Temple World Stone is a ladder that leads down to a large lily pond. This beautiful feature is now home to both danger and reward.

The Lily Pond

Once you climb down the ladder, hop down into the water and go to the right. The path leads you under the Water Harp and around its foundations. At the end of this path is a waterfall that partially conceals a treasure chest and the Blood Jewel:

Behind the waterfall

Once you've grabbed the loot, walk back to the base of the ladder and continue straight into a partially submerged temple building:

The sunken building

There are multiple enemies here, so be ready to fight in the deep water. Your movement will be slowed, but most of the enemies are Root Zombies and shouldn't be too much trouble. When you've cleared the area, continue to the stairs that lead up at the far end of the building. There is a treasure chest at the foot of these stairs, so loot it. Head back to the bottom of the ladder to continue exploring The Forbidden Grove.

Power Building

Just beside the Water Harp is the Power Building, which houses The Lost Temple World Stone and the mechanism that drives the massive musical instrument.

When you first reach The Lost Temple, you'll only be able to access the ground floor, where you'll find the World Stone and the ladder that grants access to the Lily Pond. The Water Harp drive mechanism and Simulacrum are at (or near) the top floor.

You won't be able to access the top floor until you've explored the world area that connects to the back of The Lost Temple area. Find the entrance to this area above and behind the Power Building. To get there, walk outside and walk up the stairs next to the building. Follow them all the way to the top and follow the path to the entrance near the top of the waterfall.

When you finally exit the connector world area, check the vicinity near the exit for Simulacrum. One of its three possible spawns is on a small side path here. Once you've checked, proceed down the path to the ladder and descend. At the bottom, hop down a couple of ledges to the back of the Power Building.

At the bottom, take the stairs up to enter the Water Harp control room. On the opposite wall is the large mechanism that drives the harp, and you can see it's powered by the waterfall. Pull the lever at the foot of the mechanism to engage the cogs and power the harp.

Pull this lever to start the water wheel

Before you head back downstairs, check the walkways to either side of this room. Those are the other Simulacrum spawn locations. Once you've checked, walk back down the stairs and take the small ramp down to the door, which you can now unlock and open. On the other side of the door is The Lost Temple World Stone. Use it if you need to. You are now ready to solve the Water Harp puzzle and face Corrupted Ravager.

Water Harp

Central to The Forbidden Grove is the Water Harp, a huge musical instrument powered by the neighboring waterfall. It is the key that opens the way to the Ravager's Lair and to obtaining the Bolt Driver Hand Gun and the Scroll of Binding Crafting Material.

The Water Harp

Now that the water wheel is turning in the Power Building, it's time to learn the "Beast's Song," which is the tune you need to play on the Water Harp. Inside the Power Building on a table is a book. Interact with it to read it and take note of the notes on the first page:

The Song of Aefir

The strange symbols on the left page are musical notes. A horizontal line to the right of a note means that the preceding note is two beats long. This is all you need to know to set the tune for the Water Harp, which you do at the cylinder in the mechanism under the sounding log:

The cylinder is here

Interact with the cylinder to manipulate the rods that set the notes. First, understand how this works. The bar over the middle of the cylinder features the symbols that correspond to the notes in the songbook. Each row beneath this bar represents one beat. To sound a note on a particular beat, raise the peg under the note's symbol on the row for the appropriate beat. If you want to let a note continue for two beats, simply lower all of the pegs on the second beat's row. You can set notes on up to eight rows and the top one will sound first. Now you can set the tune:

The cylinder

Here's the solution, starting with the top row and progressing to the bottom row:

  1. 5 (last peg)
  2. None (all pegs lowered)
  3. 4 (second peg from the right)
  4. None (all pegs lowered)
  5. 3 (center peg)
  6. 4 (second peg from the right)
  7. 1 (first peg)
  8. None (all pegs lowered)

Now that the music is set on the cylinder, pull the lever to start playing the tune. If you got it right, the entire song will play and you'll recognize it as the same song that the Pan Flautist is playing. As the song continues, the bridge to the Ravager's Lair will rise, granting you access to the Corrupted Ravager boss fight.

Additional Rewards

Once you've defeated Corrupted Ravager, there are still rewards to reap from The Forbidden Grove.

Finally, if you rescued the Red Doe, you'll find her grazing in the meadow just outside the shrine. If you approach her, you can interact with her to pet her.
