Statuses are conditions that alter a character's (or an enemy's) statistics. Many statuses hinder the target while others are helpful. Statuses are imposed either by exposure to a dangerous element or a toxic agent.
Like its predecessor, the game is a Souls-like, third-person adventure shooter. Players assume the role of The Traveler, a hero who uses Biome Portals to journey between worlds in an effort to destroy the enemy of all worlds, The Root.

Exposure to elements like fire immediately place a status on a character. For example, fire imposes the [[BURNING]] status. These statuses deal damage and wear off by themselves over time.

The events of Remnant II begin 40 years after the end of Remnant: From the Ashes.

Blights are imposed once exposure to a toxic agent reaches a certain threshold. Each blight displays its own status bar at the bottom of the HUD. Once the bar is full, it applies the related status to the character. For example, once the [[ROOT ROT]] blight bar fills up, the character receives the [[ROOT ROT]] status. These statuses affect character stats and remain until the player takes action to remove them.
