Aberrations are special enemies that you'll encounter throughout your adventures in every world. Some aberrations are tied to a particular location, often a particular injectable or dungeon. Others are random encounters in both world areas and dungeons. In each case, defeating them gives a certain set of rewards that you can't get elsewhere.
It is easy to recognize an aberration, which is essentially a mini-mini-boss. First, its appearance is announced by a very distinct sound. Second, you'll see the aberration's name, affixes, and health bar at the top of your HUD. Finally, aberrations have an otherworldly, red glow:
Located Aberrations
Located aberrations are those that are always found in the same location. Every time you enter a new instance of that location, you can bet you'll encounter the same aberration. The rewards for defeating a located aberration are:
- A specific mutator
- Corrupted Lumenite Crystal
- Various other rewards, like Relic Dust, Relic Fragments, and Scrap
Randomly Encountered Aberrations
Sometimes, as you adventure through a world area or dungeon, you'll encounter a random aberration. These can happen just about anywhere and are similar to located aberrations, but the rewards are slightly different:
- A random mutator
- A Corrupted Shard
- Corrupted Lumenite Crystal
- Various other rewards, like Relic Dust, Relic Fragments, and Scrap
